It has been several years since MattiTours visited Portugal and its golfcourses. At the moment – when it is a bit awkward to travel to our favourite courses in Turkey – we decided to orientate to Aroeira and its golfcourses.
Aroeira Lisbon Hotel Sea & Golf Resort is located about 25 km south from Lisbon airport at Charneca de Caparica area. Both golfcourses (Pines and Challenge) are only few minutes from hotel. If you want to see the Atlantic Ocean as well, it is about 3,5 km away. Hotel itself is modern and espacially their restaurant can be highly recommended.
Aroeira Pines Classic
Aroeira Pines Classic is the easier one of these two golfcourses at Aroeira and suits for all level golfers. 5903 m from yellow tee, and quite wide fairways too. First 9 holes are a bit easier than back-nine. After 3 rounds at Pines, I think that holes 2 (hcp1) and 11 (hcp2) are the trickiest ones also in practice.
Pines Classic has a club house, which Challenge has not. If you want to eat lunch, I recommend to do it at least once – great fastfood and reasonable prices are offered.
Aroeira Pines Challenge
Aroeira Pines Challenge is much more interesting – but also more difficult than Pines. It is 5903 m long from yellow green, and has couple of very tricky holes and lots of water hazards. Hole 17 (par 4, 412m) was for me not reachable in two shots, and also the last one 18 (par 5, 458m) needs great accuracy in all 3 shots. Fun to play, and as told, much more engrossing holes than Pines.
Other golfcourses nearby
We were supposed to play during the trip also Quinta do Peru golfcourse , but we decided to have a Lisbon day instead. More golfcourses (like famous Oitavos Dunes or Penha Longa) can be found from Sintra-Cascais area, which are about 40 km west from Lisbon city center. I have played only Onyria Quinta da Marinha golf course at Cascais, so if you have experiences from these or other courses nearby, plese give a hint.
